Upgrade Training for Existing Reiki Practitioners and Masters
In addition to our regular training, the Institute also offers Upgrade training for anyone who has already completed one or a number of Reiki levels in another Reiki style. The main difference between Japanese Reiki and Western Reiki is that the attunement process is different as are the teachings, with more than 90% of the material taught being new to Western trained Reiki practitioners.

This is also the case for the other Japanese Reiki levels, as many of these original methods were removed from the system as Reiki made its way to the West via Hayashi and Takata (see History page for more information).

Japanese Reiki is a part of the Usui Reiki Ryoho teachings and as such, offers significant differences to the Western Style of Reiki. The emphasis of this system is on Spiritual Development, not just healing. Once a new student or existing Reiki practitioner has completed one of our seminars, they are expected to practice the energy meditations on a regular basis, to enhance their healing abilities and personal/spiritual development.
For this reason we offer ongoing support for students to hone the skills learnt throughout our seminars.

Usui Reiki Ryoho courses are for beginners or can be picked up at whatever level Reiki you are already practising at present. At the International Institute for Reiki Training, there is a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) for all students wishing to join our training seminars however, in most cases it is usually necessary for existing Reiki students to repeat a certain levels (depending on their prior studies). Generally speaking, our upgrade training requires each participant to begin at the Beginners level, irrespective of prior levels. One of the primary reasons is that of Lineage. The Japanese style is considerably different to the common Western Styles of Reiki. Although some similarities do exist, many do not.

One of the other reasons for beginning over is due to the Reiki Attunements. It is not just enough to know, one needs the specific energy alignments in a living lineage to generate the best results. We re-attune each participant individually. In this way we ensure an increase of your Reiki ability that is fully aligned with our style, tradition and teachings.
