SHINPIDEN Fourth Degree (Advanced)
Stage 2. Teacher Training Apprenticeship
The Fourth Degree is a 12 month teacher training apprenticeship where one learns how to be a teacher of Reiki.
Unlike many Reiki schools, the IIRT offers traditional teacher training
apprenticeships. It is not the case that one attends a weekend workshop
and is then authorized to pass the Reiki teachings in their entirity to
others. It takes time to become a sound teacher of Reiki. At the IIRT
we do our best to maintain a more tradiiton approach to learning.
Over 12 months the apprentice participates in several Reiki classes to
learn how a class is taught. The teacher in training assists in a total
of 8 Shoden First Degree Seminars and 6 Okuden Second Degree Seminars.
Here, the apprentice learns through observation and eventually teaches
parts of the class, under the Senior Instructors supervision. The 100
hours training requirements, as prescribed in Shinpiden Third Degree
(stage 1) may be included by Seminar participation, as well as
treatments and other healing related activities.
At a later stage, in the training the Master Instructor determines when
it is time for the teacher candidate to begin attuning others within
the class. After approximately 12 months* of mentoring and practice,
the Master Instructor will give the final Reiki attunement, conferring
the Fourth Degree, bestowing the ability to teach others.
* In some cases, apprenticeships can extend to 2 years and the
time frame is solely at the discretion of the Instructor guiding the
apprentice.
When the teacher candidate has proven themself to have upheld the
values and training requirements as set forth by the IIRT, they are
initially authorised to teach First Degree seminars. Once the Teacher
in Training has held at least 6 IIRT Approved First Degree Seminars,
they are then Certified as an IIRT Authorised Second Degree Instructor.
During this training period, the apprentice in training also receives
the method of attuning others to the Third Degree. This attunement
procedure should be used to attune others only after they, themselves
have practised Reiki for the length of time required to teach the
system. (Approximately 3 to 5 years.)
Once the teacher candidate has completed their training, they receive
authorization to use and teach the material contained within IIRT
Shoden and Okuden manuals.
*Copyright conditions apply. Each participant also receives a
certificate authorizing the teacher to instruct others in the Usui
Reiki Ryoho tradition.
All IIRT Approved Teachers who teach for the IIRT are under contractor
terms and conditions. The IIRT does not employ any of its teachers and
all classes that are given to an IIRT Approved Teacher or
Teacher-in-training are solely at the discretion of the IIRT Director.
In addition to this, all IIRT Teachers-in-training and/or IIRT Approved
Instructors must maintain IIRT membership, as well as abide by the
complete IIRT Code of Ethics and IIRT Constitution. The IIRT Director
reserves the right in all cases of Duty of Disclosure.
