Code of Ethics
1. IIRT practitioners shall conduct themselves in a professional and ethical manner, perform only those services for which they are qualified; and represent their education, certification, professional affiliations and other qualifications honestly. IIRT practitioners do not in anyway profess to practice medicine, psychotherapy or related practices, unless licensed to do so.
2. IIRT practitioners shall maintain clear and honest communications with their clients, and keep all client information, whether medical or personal, strictly confidential.
3. IIRT practitioners shall discuss any problem areas that may contravene the use of Reiki and refer clients to appropriate medical or psychological professionals when indicated.
4. IIRT practitioners shall respect the client’s physical/emotional state and shall not abuse clients through actions, words or silence, nor take advantage of the therapeutic relationship. IIRT practitioners shall in no way participate in sexual activity with a client. They consider the client’s comfort zone for touch and for degree of pressure and honour the client’s requests as much as possible within personal, professional and ethical limits. They acknowledge the inherent worth and individuality of each person and therefore do not unjustly discriminate against clients and fellow Reiki practitioners.
5. IIRT practitioners shall refrain from the abuse of alcohol and drugs. These substances should not be used at all during professional activities.
6. IIRT practitioners shall strive for professional excellence through regular assessment, personal development and by continued education and training.
7. Equality is practiced with all IIRT practitioners, regardless of which level, (including teachers/instructors), within the institute and related projects.
8. IIRT shall honour all other recognized and legitimate Reiki systems, practitioners and teachers regardless of personal differences and beliefs.
9. IIRT practitioners shall refrain from making false claims regarding potential benefits of Traditional Reiki.
10. IIRT practitioners shall in no way endeavour, either by personal act, word or deed to bring the IIRT or its teachers and tradition into disrepute.
